reflecting on the past and embracing the future with caba trustee Kaaeed Mamujee
As a caba trustee with 10 years under his belt, Kaaeed Mamujee has seen a lot. From being part of a major increase in funds to appointing caba’s CEO, Kaaeed has witnessed and aided in caba’s maturity and growth throughout his tenure.
Kaaeed has held many roles with caba, beginning as committee member, to a trustee and President. Now, as he prepares to step down from his role and sink his teeth into a new role, we sat down with him to learn more about his position, the challenges and successes, and what’s next for caba and the ICAEW community.
Giving something back to the ICAEW community
For Kaaeed, who is a partner at specialist firm M Cubed Chartered Accountants, becoming a trustee was a deeply personal move. ‘’I felt it was important to give something back to the chartered accountancy world. I’ve enjoyed a fantastic career and had so many doors opened as a result of being in this industry. For me, becoming a trustee felt like a great way of honouring the profession that made my life what it is today, whilst also helping those who haven’t been as fortunate as I have.’'
Because of his close ties with the community and deep understanding of those within it, Kaaeed has consistently remained motivated and dedicated to caba’s mission – right from the onset.
A decade of growth
“A lot can happen over 10 years, and I've enjoyed how caba has continued to adapt. Back in the early days of my role, caba had just received an increase in funds, and was still finding its feet. Since then, the charity has grown and matured massively, and I'm proud of all the people it’s helped along the way,’’ he explains.
“I’ve been particularly proud of championing financial sustainability within the organisation, which took a fair bit of work from a trustee level. But I've also enjoyed being involved with the rebrand and appointing Cris as CEO – which is one of the most important role a trustee can undertake.’’
For Kaaeed, the past 10 years have been a learning curve – not just for caba, but for himself, too. “I’ve also learnt so much from being a trustee at caba.’’ he says. ‘’I'm a net gainer; I've learned and gained so much and met and worked with some great people along the way. I've received so much more than the time I've given.’’
The future of caba and the ICAEW community
Despite his accomplishments, Kaaeed knows that this is no time rest on laurels. ‘’Between technology updates, AI and policy changes, there’s a lot that will keep caba on its toes, much of which the business strategy for 2025 tackles head on, which I’m very excited about.’’
Kaaeed continues to explain the challenges caba faces with the rise of technology. ‘’Because of the breadth of caba's audience and their different motivations, caba will have to adopt two very
different strategies. For older generations, it will need to bridge the technology gap, while the new wave of accountant's generations will expect digital-first solutions.’’
After 10 years, Kaaeed can now continue to watch his hard work unfold from afar and is keen to see in which direction the charity goes. As for Kaaeed himself, he’s already taken on a new trustee role at Phoenix Art Cinema in Leicester and is busy exploring other opportunities to give back. “Change is as good as a rest,” he concluded, ready to set his sights on a different sector and the new, exciting challenges that come with it.
